Lululun is pretty well known in and out of Japan, though I do not know too much about its popularity in Japan, I do know that I am starting to see Lululun masks popping up when I shop online! I never really dabbled in Japanese face masks in my Asian Beauty journey but I am very interested in these “daily masks” from Lululun. I mean I don’t know of any other brand that has a mask created with the intention of someone wearing a new one everyday. That kind of product intention is what interests me the most from these masks.

While looking for these masks I’ve noticed something… there are a whole lot of colors and variations and special editions.

I only took notice of the Blue, White, and Pink ones at first but the more you dig into it the more variations you find. So I want to try to name them all and point out the differences in each (if there are even any). Hopefully I can clear up this color crazy confusion, (yay alliteration!)

Blue

Blue is High/Rich (I’ve seen both words used) Moisture mask. The main point of this mask is to moisturize your face. Some sites mention it improves skin firmness and elasticity.

Ingredients include: water, glycerin, propanediol, polyquaternium -51, glycosyl trehalose, glyceryl glucoside, hydrogenated starch hydrolysates, PCA-Na, royal jelly extract , hyaluronic acid Na, citron fruit extract, Algae, marjoram leaf extract, PEG-40 hydrogenated castor oil, xanthan gum, citric acid, citric acid Na, phenoxyethanol, methylparaben, BG. On the website it shows the new version of this mask, keep in mind the change from tiara (old) to pearl + star (new).

Pink

Pink is Balance Moisture or Regular Type (again, I’ve seen both used) face mask. This one keeps your skin smooth and moist all year round. Emphasizing the daily use aspect of the brand, the pink one is the most “basic” type of mask you could go for.

Ingredients include: water, glycerin, propanediol, Komenukasufingo glycolipid, niacinamide, PCA-Na, honey, hyaluronic acid Na, Panax ginseng root extract, aloe vera leaf extract, bilberry leaf extract, avocado extract, Melia bruises Zillah Kuta leaf extract, horse plantain seed extract, mandarin orange peel extract, lecithin hydrogenated, lysolecithin, PEG-40 hydrogenated castor oil, xanthan gum, citric acid, citric acid Na, water oxide Na, phenoxyethanol, methylparaben, BG. Silver

White is Brightening or Fresh Clear mask (again, I’ve seen both used). Brightening is the key feature in this type of mask. Some sites claim it improves skin roughness and smooths out skin texture.

Ingredients include: water, glycerin, propanediol, ascorbyl glucoside, panthenol, dipotassium glycyrrhizin acid, hyaluronic acid Na, sorbitol fermentation polysaccharide, Yoshino cherry tree leaf extract , evening primrose seed extract, Hime Fuuro extract, prune hydrolyzate, kiwi extract, horse plantain seed extract, mandarin orange peel extract, PEG-40 hydrogenated castor oil, xanthan gum, citric acid, citric acid Na, hydroxide K, EDTA-2Na, phenoxyethanol, methylparaben, BG. (Google translated from the Japanese website.)

Okay, to sum it all up. Blue is highly moisturizing, pink is basic, white is brightening. Alright, cool, got all that down. Something that all Lululun masks have in common is that they boast not using mineral oil, coloring, or scents. So it sounds like those with sensitive skin would have no problems with this mask brand.

Precious Anti-Aging

Apart from the main ternary series, another line exists which may have caught your attention. The Precious series (which at this point in time is just the two varieties shown above) is marketed for those who are 40+ and want to combat the signs of aging skin. That wasn’t just a number I pulled at random by the way, the website clearly mentions those in that age range are who this product is intended for. I suppose that’s why the packaging for this product is more… “luxury” and modern as opposed to its regular line which features a cute and girly image on the front.

Anywho, this line is basically just for anti-aging but each color also has added ingredients to target separate issues.

Red ingredients includes: Water, glycerin, propanediol, PPG-10 methyl glucose, rice bran oil, Komenukasufingo glycolipid, glycosyl trehalose, quince seed extract, rice bran extract, hydrolyzed Komeekisu, plum fruit extract, camellia seed extract, Sagarameekisu, hydrolysis water hydrogenated starch, hydrogenated lecithin, lysolecithin, polyglyceryl isostearate -10, xanthan gum, citric acid, citric acid Na, hydroxide Na, phenoxyethanol, methyl paraben, BG

This color is useful to those with dry skin as the rice bran oil/extract helps to target fine lines while also moisturizing the skin.

White ingredients include:  Water, glycerin, propanediol, niacinamide, panthenol, ascorbyl glucoside, tocopherol, hyaluronic acid Na, Asaiyashi fruit extract, rose apple leaf extract, avocado extract, coffee seed extract, rooibos extract, xanthan gum, PEG-40 hydrogenated castor oil, citric acid, citric acid Na, hydroxide K, EDTA-2Na, phenoxyethanol, methyl paraben, BG

If you pay attention to Lululun’s branding you may notice a pattern with their packaging. Most “white” products will mean they focus on brightening and whitening the skin. Basically evening out your skin tone and giving you a “shine from within” kind of look. That doesn’t change with this product. That niacinamide in the ingredients list quickly points that this product is for those who want brighter and an even skin tone while also focusing on anti-aging (the whole point of the Precious line).
